Saltire Awards: Recognise Your Senior Helpers

Did you know that senior pupils who support the running of your dressCode club can gain recognition for their valuable contributions through the Saltire Awards?

This national youth volunteering award scheme allows young people to log their volunteering hours and receive certificates. You can find out more on the official website: Saltire Awards.

Encourage your senior pupils to get involved in assisting with the club's activities – from helping younger members to organising sessions – and they can earn official recognition for their efforts.

Encouraging Volunteering & Recognising Senior Mentors in Your dressCode Club

Empowering senior pupils to become mentors within your dressCode club offers significant benefits for both the younger members and the senior students themselves. By taking on leadership roles and supporting club activities, these senior mentors develop valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and organisation.

To further enhance their experience and provide well-deserved recognition for their commitment, we encourage you to support them in logging their volunteering hours. There are various platforms available depending on your location:

  • In Scotland: The Saltire Awards provide a fantastic framework for young people to record their volunteering and receive certificates of achievement.

  • In Northern Ireland: The Millennium Volunteers programme, run by Volunteer Now, offers a similar opportunity for logging hours and gaining recognition.

  • In Wales: The GwirVol programme supports youth volunteering and offers avenues for recognition.

  • In Ireland: The President's Award - Gaisce includes a community involvement element where volunteering is recognised.

Beyond these national schemes, explore local volunteer centres or school-based initiatives that might offer ways for your senior mentors to track their contributions and receive acknowledgement for their valuable work.

By facilitating the recognition of your senior mentors' volunteering efforts, you not only celebrate their commitment but also:

  • Enhance their personal development: Providing them with tangible evidence of their skills and dedication.

  • Increase their engagement: Showing them that their contributions are valued.

  • Strengthen your club: Fostering a culture of leadership and peer support.

We encourage you to discuss these opportunities with your senior mentors and help them find the most suitable way to log their volunteering hours and gain the recognition they deserve.
