33rd Most Influential Women in UK Technology 2024
We are honoured to share that Toni Scullion is 33rd on this year’s ComputerWeekly.com list of the most influential women in UK tech. Reaching thousands of pupils across the UK in both Primary and Secondary each year through competitions, coding clubs, annual school awards, hackathons, role model posters, and by supporting teachers with school events, Toni also leads numerous impactful initiatives, including:
Computing Science Scotland: A grassroots initiative supporting, encouraging, and championing teachers delivering Computing Science.
Digital Technology Education Charter: Advocating for Computing Science as a subject in schools and ensuring equitable access for all pupils.
Choose Computing Science: Supporting parents, guardians, and key influencers with resources to spark young people’s interest in tech and explore exciting careers.
CSS Connect: Helping teachers connect with industry to support school events and build meaningful industry relationships.
She is co-founder of the Ada Scotland Festival, an annual event addressing the gender imbalance in Computing Science, and is widely recognised for her in-depth knowledge of the Computing Science education landscape. Toni continuously tracks key data, including uptake, gender gaps, teacher numbers, training places, and age demographics compared to other STEM subjects, uses this insight to drive change, champion and advocate for Computing Science.
All this is achieved in her own time, alongside a full-time job, with no dedicated hours during the day for any of this and no big team. Toni is driven by her love for Computing Science and
passion to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to experience how amazing Computing Science can be, particularly inspiring females to see the incredible opportunities in tech and the difference they can make.
Her mission is to close the gender gap and help build a sustainable tech talent pipeline—that starts in schools—that the sector urgently needs. We are bursting with pride for her well-deserved recognition on this list! WomenInTech Huge congratulations to everyone else who made it on the long list and short list as well. You're all amazing!
